Sheep
The sheep on our farm are Leicester Long Wool (English Leicester) Sheep. The Leicester Long's were imported early in George Washington's era. The Leicester Long Wool has a mop of wool over the crown of it's head. The breed is hardy and adapts to a wide variety of environmental conditions. They are a breed that needs to be shearred twice a year.
Our other breed of Sheep are Karakul. They are from Central Asiatic Region of Russia. They are a Fat Tailed Sheep and thought to be one of the oldest breeds in the world. Karakul's are quit hard and adapts to a wide variety of environmental conditions. They too are a breed that needs to be shearred twice a year. Meet our Girls. Ashley, Amber and Dahlia. Their wool is a coarse grade wool and is used alot for rug making and excellent for felting.
Our Girls Wool makes wonderful shawls, hats, scarves, and handspinners Love the wool.
